Bridging the gap between what behaviours are seen - and what thoughts, feelings and needs are behind the behaviours - is such a vital part of the process, we feel it needs mentioning right from the start!
Our warm, playful, collaborative and developmental-trauma-informed practitioners will work with the child, and the system around the child, where a better understanding of their complex needs will help to inform sustainable and ethical parenting and teaching.
Therapeutic Life Story Work (TLSW) takes the form of revealing, contextualising and processing known and unknown facts/opinions that have been gathered by several sources of insight, about a young person's history.
TLSW reduces shame/self-blame and brings about a sense of positive identity. The TLSW process creates the potential for healing conversations between carers and a young person through greater understanding about the past.
TLSW sessions generally occur bi-weekly, lasting about an hour, and take place with carers and key workers present. At the end of the process a crafted book is presented to the young person with a record of the known facts – as well as their opinions/feelings. The book is intended to be shared with future carers as a way of honouring the young person's unique journey.
Separate consultation with carers can also support trauma resolution and therapeutic parenting strategies.
